Achtung Royale is a free, modern take on the classic Achtung, die Kurve! The goal is simple: keep everything that made the original so addictive, while making it more competitive and more accessible for everyone.

A 90s classic, reborn

The original Achtung, die Kurve! (also known as Zatacka) was a freeware MS-DOS game from 1995: a handful of players steering ever-growing curves with just two keys, each trying to outlast the rest. It built a devoted following and inspired a whole genre. You can read more about the original.

Built for online multiplayer

Hop into a game in just seconds. Map configurations keep changing, so it never gets boring. Battle online in free-for-all and team matches against players everywhere, or grab the couch for local multiplayer on a shared keyboard (or by tapping each side of a phone).

Made by players, for players

Achtung Royale began as Mathias's first project during his studies at KTH, born from playing the original to death back in high school. The first working version went live in 2011, and in 2026 it was rebuilt and rebranded from Achtung Online to Achtung Royale. Today it's built and maintained by Mathias, but the Achtung Online era was a team effort: Lucas pair-programmed that first version, Erik was the bot mastermind behind the AI opponents, and Henrik gave the game its first visual design. The engine is written from scratch, with those pathfinding bots still here to practice against.

Free, and fair

The game is free, runs right in your browser, and even works offline. No login is required to play; signing in is optional, just to save your name and stats. It stays alive through friendly donations and cosmetic purchases only, never pay-to-win. If you enjoy it, you can support it on Ko-fi. We don't sell your data.
